Free at Sea follows Samuele Landi, a fugitive Italian telecoms magnate who attempted to found a nation from a rusting platform in international waters. Director Oswald Horowitz - the only filmmaker to live alongside Landi before his death at sea - uncovers the contradictions of the man and the radical world of seasteading that inherited his dream. Through intimate footage, testimony and the wreck left behind, the film asks what drives people to risk everything in pursuit of a freer society beyond land.
